Gum rosin is a solid yellow resin of natural origin. Resulting distillation residue of turpentine, gum rosin is mainly adopted in industrial sector, in production of building materials, glues, paints, dyes, etc.. Shellac is collected from the bark of the trees and, once subjected to refining, can be used in many fields: artisanal, for the realization of everyday objects, furniture items (frames) or packaging and in the contemporary industry for the production of coatings and finishes. Shellac is considered to all effects also a food additive: it is in fact used for the so-called “coating” that is to say for coating pills, sweets and supplements.
